We call them black and white tiles but in reality these beautiful cork squares are coloured with a wash of white and darkest brown, allowing a hint of the natural beauty of material to show through. This classic design is having a moment right now and our checkered flooring is suitable for use on walls as well as floors. More
Easy to fit - Just glue down on any flat surface. Suitable for busy family homes and commercial spaces alike
Tough - Finished with a durable matt-laquered coating for easy cleaning. This gorgeous natural design is great for kitchens and hallways
Our black and white checked tiles are a modern, sustainable take on the classic chequerboard floor. Each cork tile is made from the hand-harvested bark from the cork oak and works brilliantly in kitchens, hallways and large spaces as commercial cork flooring. While we call these tiles black and white, the black cork tile is actually made from the darkest brown which gives it much warmer feel underfoot. The white cork tile, meanwhile, uses a contemporary white wash. It’s worth noting these are not uni cork colours. Both cork tiles colours are designed to enhance, rather than disguise, the natural beauty of the cork itself, so some patterning is visible. Close
Climate positive - Corka actually removes more carbon from the atmosphere than is used in its manufacture
Warm and quiet - Cork’s natural honeycomb structure makes it extremely quiet and comfortable underfoot. Works well with underfloor heating too
Pure - Cork is naturally anti-microbial so it’s a great choice
for allergy sufferers
Our Corka Black and White tiles are made from pure cork, a completely natural raw material, which is biodegradable, renewable and recyclable.
The cork oak is an evergreen which grows up to 20m high and lives for up to 200 years. The bark has a honeycomb cell structure and is a natural fire retardant
with exceptional insulating properties. No trees are cut down during harvesting. The process requires great expertise (it is the highest paid job in Portuguese agriculture) and involves carving the bark off once every nine years. The first harvest takes place only 25 years after planting.
All of our cork comes from a 700,000-hectare forested ecosystem in southern
Portugal known as the Montado, whose trees are protected by law. These forests make a significant contribution to reducing global warming, capturing an estimated 5 percent of the country’s annual CO2 emissions, or 4.8 million tons per year. The sustainably managed cork forests support many endangered species including the Imperial eagle, wolves and the Iberian lynx, one of the most endangered cats in the world.
Commercial grade
Corka tiles are a tried and trusted choice for both domestic and commercial applications. Manufactured in a state-of-the-art factory in Portugal, they are
extremely hard-wearing and designed to showcase cork in all its beautiful, natural variation. This may include filled knots, small holes and natural irregularities of the bark. With our coloured Corka, the surface colour is intended as a subtle wash which will not mask the natural grain of the plank.
Wellness
The natural flexibility of the material softens impacts and makes for a perfect, relaxing walking surface. Corka is warm, hypoallergenic and best in class for indoor air quality, as shown by numerous international certifications such as Green Guard Gold, TUV, LEAD, BREEAM and the French A+ label.
