Cork flooring for the 21st century. Waterproof, ultra-green and easy to lay, Corka is an award-winning take on an old flooring favourite. It’s finished with a tough protective coating which makes it great for busy family homes and commercial spaces alike. More
WHY WE LIKE IT
Corka can be laid on any flat surface, either as “floating” floor or glued down (see installation). It works well with underfloor heating and, with a waterproof and durable matt-laquered surface, it’s great for kitchens and a popular choice for offices, restaurants and other high-traffic areas too. Other benefits include:
Climate positive Corka actually removes more carbon from the atmosphere than is used in its manufacture
Easy to fit Click system for fast laying
Durable Finished with a tough, scratch-resistant coating for easy cleaning and low maintenance
Warm and quiet Cork’s natural honeycomb structure makes it extremely quiet and comfortable underfoot
Pure Unlike other cork flooring, Corka contains no MDF or fibreboard filler
Corka is made using the bark of the cork oak, an evergreen which grows up to 20m high and lives for up to 200 years. The bark has a honeycomb cell structure, a natural fire retardant with exceptional insulating properties.
No trees are cut down during harvesting. The process requires great expertise (it is the highest paid job in Portuguese agriculture) and involves carving the bark off once every nine years. The first harvest takes place only 25 years after planting.
All of our cork comes from a 700,000-hectare forested ecosystem in southern Portugal known as the Montado, whose trees are protected by law. These forests make a significant contribution to reducing global warming, capturing an estimated 5 percent of the country’s annual CO2 emissions, or 4.8 million tons per year.
The sustainably managed cork forests support many endangered species including the Imperial eagle, wolves and the Iberian lynx, one of the most endangered cats in the world.
HOW IT'S MADE
Our Corka is made up of several layers including a natural cork veneer, a rigid cork core and an integrated cork underlay. Manufactured in a state-of-the-art factory in Portugal, it takes cork flooring to a new level of technical excellence.
Corka is made from the bark of the cork oak, with all its beautiful, natural variation. This may include character-giving knots and pinprick holes. With our coloured Corka, the surface colour is intended as a subtle wash which will not mask the natural grain of the plank.
Our cork flooring is easy to lay and works well with underfloor heating; there’s no varnishing involved and the planks simply click together. It's your choice whether to glue down or install as a "floating floor". Many of our customers lay it themselves as a DIY project, but if you are looking for an experienced fitter, we can help – just email us your postcode.
Our standard delivery is within 5 working days and costs £25 for smaller orders and £35 for large ones. We also offer a 48-hour express service as well as international delivery. Samples are sent out by first-class post (you can have 3 for free).
If you change your mind about your order, you are welcome to return it to us within 14 days for a full refund.
